Stepper motor drive system performance is good or bad, mainly depends on the performance of the stepper motor itself and the driver is good or bad, the common stepper motor driver control methods are: full stepper drive, half stepper drive, subdivision drive, etc.
1. Full stepper drive
Full stepping operation process, the same stepper motor can be equipped with a full / half-step drive or subdivision drive, but the operating effect is different. The stepper motor driver excites the two coils of the two-phase stepper motor according to the pulse/direction command, and each pulse of this drive mode will move the motor by a basic stepping angle, i.e. 1.80 degrees.
2. Half-step drive
The two-phase coils are periodically single-phase, and then the two-phase excitation stepper motor will rotate in half-step mode at 0.90 degrees per pulse, which has the advantage of double precision and low speed and vibration compared with full-step drive. Therefore, in general, when using full/half-step drive in practice, half-step mode is usually used.
3.Subdivision drive
The current of the two coils of the motor is precisely controlled according to the sine and cosine step, so that the distance of the step angle can be divided into several subdivisions, characterized by low vibration at low speed and high positioning accuracy.
