Working principle and difference between external and internal rotor brushless DC motors

Those who have known the knowledge of brushless motor know that the rotor of brushless motor is permanent magnet, which is connected to the output shaft together with the housing, and the stator is a winding coil, so it is called brushless motor. Compared with brush motors, the commutation brushes that alternately change the electromagnetic field are removed, and there is no spark, free from maintenance and more reliable operation.

We often use external rotor and internal rotor brushless DC motors, what is the difference between them?

1. The difference between external rotor type and internal rotor type is that the external rotor type motor is made with the magnet sheet originally in the center and glued to the shell. When the brushless DC motor runs, the whole shell rotates while the stator coil in the middle does not move.

2. Compared with the inner rotor type, the rotational inertia of the outer rotor type is much higher because the main mass of the rotor is concentrated in the housing, so the speed is slower than that of the inner rotor motor.

The working principle of the outer rotor brushless DC motor is analyzed in a similar way to that of the inner rotor. The principle is that the N-pole of the rotor is aligned with the S-pole of the energized winding, while the S-pole of the rotor is aligned with the N-pole of the energized winding.
